Augusta County Party Canvass for Clerk of Court, Saturday, April 27 at 4 pm

As Chairman of the Augusta County Republican Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and pursuant to the State Party Plan of Organization, and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Rebecca Simmons, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at the Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona, Virginia, 24482 starting at 10:00 AM local time and ending at 4:00 PM local time on April 27, 2019 for the purpose of nominating a Republican candidate for the office of Clerk of the Circuit Court to be voted for in the special election on November 5, 2019. (This call is being issued due to the retirement announcement of the current Clerk of the Circuit Court, effective April 1,2019. The special election shall be held at the regularly scheduled time and voting locations through the County of Augusta that are used with respect to the general election.)

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters of Augusta County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts. Voters will be required to present a validly issued photographic identification as defined by the Virginia Department of Elections and sign a written certification that they are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party as expressed in the Virginia Republican Creed and confirming their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election. No voter who refuses to present such identification or sign such certification will be permitted to vote.

Candidate Filing Requirements
Each candidate for the nomination at said Party Canvass shall submit a pre-file form, along with a nonrefundable filing fee of $500.00 by way of money order, personal check or Credit Card and made payable to Augusta County Republican Committee. Please mail to P.O. Box 430, Verona VA. 24482 or deliver in person, to Kirk Barley, Treasurer or Rebecca Simmons, Chairman. Filing Form must be received not later than April 1, 2019 at 5:00 PM. Kirk Barley or Rebecca Simmons and/or his/her proxy, will be at the above location (Verona Post Office) from 4:00 to 5:00PM on this date (April 1, 2019) to receive any last-minute filings. The pre-file form can be obtained on the ACRC website at, the RPV website at, and the Sixth District website, Postmarks shall not govern. IF NOT MORE THAN ONE PERSON PROPERLY FILES FOR CANDIDACY AND IS DETERMINED TO BE QUALIFIED, THEN THAT PERSON SHALL BE DEEMED TO BE NOMINATED AND THE PARTY CANVASS WILL NOT BE HELD.

Registration Fee

There will be no registration fee for voters to participate in this Party Canvass. Rules 1.Ballot order will be determined by lot. 2.The winner of a tie will be determined by lot. 3.There will be no write-in votes, absentee ballots or proxy votes allowed. 4.Polls will close at 4:00 PM sharp. Only those in line to vote at 4:00 PM will be allowed to vote. 5.Other rules, requirements and procedures deemed necessary for the orderly conduct of said Party Canvass adopted by the Augusta County Republican Committee for said Party Canvass shall be deemed to have full force and effect as if set forth verbatim in this Call. Approval/Publication/Revisions The Augusta County Republican Committee voted at a duly called meeting on March 19, 2019, to approve the terms of this Call, authorize the Chairman to make technical changes if required and, by 2/3 majority of the Committee, to waive publication of this Call in a newspaper.
