Mass Meeting of the Highland County Republican Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia
As Chairman of the Highland County Republican Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization, and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Larry Bandy, do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at The Highland County Public Library, 31 Water Street Monterey, Virginia on March 5, 2020 starting at 4:30PM for the following purposes:
1. Elect a Unit Chairman
2. Elect members of the Unit Committee
3. Elect up to 7 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates binding Virginia Delegates to the 2020 Republican National Convention as to their choice for President on the 1st ballot by a Presidential Preference Poll to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention to be held on May 1-2, 2020 convening at 2:30 pm on May 1, 2020, at Vines Center, Liberty University, 1971 University Blvd. Lynchburg, VA 24502 for the purposes of:
A) Electing 12, At-Large Delegates and an equal number of alternates to the Republican National Convention to be held on August 24th, 2020, Spectrum Center, Charlotte North Carolina;
B) Nominating two Electors At-Large to be voted for in the presidential election on November 10, 2020;
C) Electing a National Committeeman and National Committeewoman;
D) Electing a State Chairman;
E) And for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the Convention.
4. Elect up to 7 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the 6th District Republican Committee Convention to be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020, 10:00 am, at the Central County High School, 1147 Susan Avenue, Woodstock, Virginia 22664.
A) Electing 3 National Delegates and 3 National Alternates from the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia to the Republican National Convention;
B) Nominating one Presidential Elector from the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia to be voted for in the presidential election on November 3, 2020;
C) Electing a Chairman for the Sixth Congressional District of the Republican Party of Virginia;
D) Elect 3 Regional Vice Chairmen for the Sixth Congressional District of the Republican Party of Virginia;
E) Elect 3 members to the Republican State Central Committee from the Sixth Congressional District;
F) The transaction of such other business as may properly come before the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia Republican Committee Convention.
5. And for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the Mass Meeting. Please note: Highland County’s maximum number of delegates for both the 6th district and the state conventions is 5 times its respective Delegate Vote or 35. Meaning up to 35 people would cast the County’s 7 votes.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters in Highland County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, subject to the provisions in Article 1 of the Plan of Organization.
Filing Requirements
Candidates for election as unit chair at said mass meeting shall file the attached candidate statement form by mail or in person no later than 5:00pm February 26, 2020, to Charlotte Stephenson, at 131 West Main St. Monterey VA 24465. Postmarks do not govern.
A pre-file form for those seeking membership to the Highland County Republican Committee or who wish to be elected as delegates for the 6th District Convention, and or the State Convention is attached. Individuals may pre-file by submitting the attached form by mail or in person no later than 5:00pm on February 26, 2020, to Charlotte Stephenson, at 131 West Main St. Monterey VA 24465. Postmarks do not govern.
Please note, If not more than 1 person pre-files for chair AND not more than 14 people pre-file for committee membership AND not more than 35 people pre-file for both the 6th District AND State conventions, the qualified pre-filed people are considered elected and the mass meeting may be canceled.
A voluntary contribution of Twenty Dollars (20.00), is requested of each Delegate and Alternate Delegate to the District Convention to help defray the cost of the Convention.
